Summary:
In 2021, the Lower Germanic Limes was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and thus as a cultural heritage of all humanity. As part of the international World Heritage "Frontiers of the Roman Empire," the Lower Germanic Limes links 44 individual cultural sites across municipal, district, and state borders into a common World Heritage site. In addition to the protection and preservation of the Lower Germanic Limes in Germany and its sites, increased attention is now also being paid to educational outreach and tourism development. This volume reports on the exchange of information and experiences between people from tourism, archaeology, cultural education, and museum work. Best-practice examples present new ideas and educational offerings. The contributions by authors from Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria include general introductions to the significance of the UNESCO World Heritage site as well as examples of educational work by other Limes sections and individual museums.
