A letter found in the vast archive of 55,000 negatives of photographer Armando Salas Portugal (1915-1995), written in Celestún, Yucatán, on August 26, 1946, addressed to his friend José Luis de las Fuentes, became the common thread of exhibition "Crónica de un viaje a Yucatán, 1946". Armando Salas Portugal's trip to Yucatan in 1946 represents a valuable artistic testimony about the history, architecture, archaeology, anthropology and geographical knowledge of the place. The catalogue comprises a careful selection of black and white photographic images of the photographer's first visit to the coasts of the peninsula and the archaeological sites of Uxmal and Chichén Itzá. Salas Portugal would return later to southern Mexico in 1949, 1950, 1963 and 1982, touring the states of Yucatán, Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco and Quintana Roo
