- Summary:
- The catalogue brings together a selection of works by four disciples/artists from the Escuela del Sur (Nino Fernández, Marcelo Larrosa, Federico Méndez and Gustavo Serra), whose art dialogue with the private archaeological and ethnological collection of Augusto Torres (1913-1992) and Elsa Andrada (1920-2010) -son and daughter in law of Joaquín Torres García-, and now part of the holdings of the MAPI. Curated by María Eugenia Méndez, this exhibition presents a careful selection of Pre-Columbian and ethnological objects that establish a silent dialogue with the works of four contemporary artists. "These are pieces created using deliberately rudimentary techniques, carvings, wood-fired ceramics, leathers and oil paintings, and others, which include the realization of applied arts in everyday objects and not for that reason, minor, on the contrary, grand art." --translated from page 10.
