- Summary:
- This first retrospective of Carla Witte (Leipzig, 1889-1943) is a collaboration between the Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales (MNAV) and the Museo Agustín Araujo (Treinta y Tres Department), which recovers the artistic oeuvre of this German artist, who lived in Uruguay from 1927 until her death in 1943. "Autenticidad radical" brings together a total of close to 100 works of various techniques (drawings, engravings, tempera, oil paintings and sculptures in bronze and wood) that have never before been exhibited to the public. The vast majority are pieces from the Colección Carla Witte of the Museo Agustín Araujo, which has its origin in the set of works donated by the Araujo family in the forties, to which was recently added the donation made in 2020 by the Chifflet family. "The vast majority of these works come from donations made between 1944 and 1949 by the heirs of Agustín Araujo Piteiras, a prosperous merchant of Spanish origin who settled in Treinta y Tres."--translated from page 17.
