Summary:
The Colloquium «Arquitectura y Ciudad en el Virreinato Peruano», organized by the Museo de Arte Religioso of the Cathedral of Lima and the Instituto de Investigación of the Facultad de Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Artes of the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (INIFAUA) in october 2019 -an academic event in which an emphasis is placed on the historiographical work of Father Antonio San Cristóbal (Segovia, Spain 1923 - Lima, Perú, 2008) and his legacy in university academic training-, as well as the present printed edition that compiles this valuable information, exposes important contributions to the study of Peruvian viceregal architecture, this time focused on the valuable and rich constructed production of Lima. In this compendium, which serves as a tribute to the memory of such an illustrious researcher and university professor, very specific examples of the typological range of urban and architectural production that constitute the rich built heritage of the capital of the Peruvian Viceroyalty are analyzed; the facts studied, very specific and detailed, are part of urban studies referring to Lima and a series of buildings that constitute sources of identity of a city considered Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Taking this significant context as a setting, the colloquium has brought together important research works that address topics ranging from urban aspects to the specificity of funerary structures and altarpieces that ornament the interior of Lima's religious enclosures, also emphasizing the transcendence of the historiographical research work of Antonio San Cristóbal and his academic legacy in the university classrooms, expressed through the pedagogical experience of teaching the courses of history of viceregal architecture in the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería.
