Summary:
The kené, ('design' in Shipibo-Konibo), is the most elaborate artistic manifestation of the Shipibo-Konibo people and, probably, of the entire Peruvian Amazon; for the variety and complexity of its designs, the delicacy and work of its finishes, the depth of its meanings. Shipibo women have been, since time immemorial, the ones who have drawn these designs for their costumes, their ceramics, and their daily lives. As urban contact increased, this native art made by women flooded the craft markets, thus becoming an important means of economic survival and cultural resistance. Koshi Kené (El poder del Kené) is a Shipibo-Konibo contemporary art installation worked collectively between the artist Olinda Silvano, the women muralists of Soi Noma and the artist Harry Chávez. Koshi It is the positive energy or force that emerges from the cosmos through the visions caused by rao or medicinal plants, whether ayahuasca or piri piri
