Summary:
Zacharias Kunuk's TV series compares old and new ways of hunting in ice country by the Inuit. For as long as the Inuit can remember, dogs have been essential hunting companions, also used for winter transportation, carrying summer packs and protecting hunting camps from bears. From 1950 to 1975, the RCMP and other government officials slaughtered dogs across the north, forcing the Inuit into sedentary lifestyles. Nowadays, many Nunavummiut are returning to the practice of dog team hunting. Zach follows hunters, both young and elders, on a March polar bear hunt, using the traditional dogteam method.
