Summary:
We all may think that we know the ways of the Gallic warriors very well. We may imagine them to have been loud, brawling, irascible, disorderly, and irrepressible. However, the latest archaeological discoveries paint a picture of a different side to these ancient ancestors. The Gauls were, indeed, formidable fighters, feared all around the Mediterranean basin. They even cut off the heads of their fallen opponents, displaying these skulls as evidence of their victories. They fixed these skulls in front of their houses, or kept them in chests with cedar oil. However, contrary to all of our clichés, recent archaeology reveals these fighters to have also tended otherwise to be quite refined in their tastes.
