- Summary:
- Does the term "Iron Age" hold any connotations for you? By this term, historians today name the Gallic period, because the Gauls were the first in France to tame iron. They were masters of metallurgy, a mastery that allowed them to achieve great technological advances. Outstanding blacksmiths, they designed a whole range of what were then "new generation" weapons. These blacksmiths also succeeded in creating a new spectrum of tools which would revolutionize everyday life, and the productivity, of the Gauls. That's not all. We will see that these metal-working craftsmen had real artistic talent as well. We will discover Gallic art-long-forgotten art-forms that recent archaeological excavations have enabled us to rediscover.
