Biography/History:
Dr. Jyotirmoy Guha is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Physics at Santipur College in West Bengal, India. He stood first class first in both his BSc and MSc from Kalyani University, and completed PhD in quantum cosmology. Books authored by Dr Guha include: Quantum Mechanics (Theory, Problems and Solutions), published in 2012 (3rd edition in 2019); Solid State Physics (Theory, Problems and Solutions), published in 2018 (2nd edition in 2019); Modern Physics Volumes I and II, both published in 2020; and Quantum Optics and Quantum Computation: An Introduction (co-authored), published by IOP Publishing in 2022.
Summary:
The topics of nuclear physics, particle physics and cosmology are closely connected. As the second volume of a two-volume set, this book covers particle physics and cosmology. Chapters exploring particle physics describe the standard model of particle physics and deal with the classification of the many sub-nuclear particles and forces of nature while introducing the various advances in the field. Relativistic quantum mechanics, quantum field theory and group theory are explored and the dynamics of the universe are described. Components of the universe are additionally discussed. This course text follows a simple style, with a lucid approach and step-by-step explanations. Every effort has been made to describe things clearly and care has been taken to provide illustrations wherever applicable.
