- Tony Blair is billed by his spin doctors as having held a 'cancer summit' at 10 Downing Street. His Secretary of State for Health, Alan Milburn, is said to be 'waging war on cancer'. Spending increase on the 'new' NHS is already said to be 'historic'; the NHS will become the 'best health service in the world'. Almost every day, government press releases claim to be spending 'extra' money, 'new' money, or handing out a cash 'boost'. But did you know that 'new', 'extra', and 'boosts' no longer quite mean what they say? Panorama enters the virtual world of new Labour's health spin doctors, to unravel the truth from an increasingly powerful government propaganda machine, and asks will Tony Blair really fulfil his pledge to 'save the NHS?'
