- Summary:
- Template document, printed and with handwritten corrections, written for use of Jewish seafarers for preserving their identity, and whereabouts, during ocean storms; the text addresses parnassim, gabbaim, and communal dignitaries in the closest town identified with three living Jews, to explain how the vessel is close to capsizing and sinking, and the seafarer is praying for the storm to subside. Included in the text are verses for divine assistance, a quote from the Talmud (Bava Batra 73a, regarding an instance that Rabbah bar bar Hannah quieted a storm through a Divine name; "אשתעו לי נחותי ימא האי גלא דמטבע לספינה מיתחזי כי צוציתא דנורא חיוורתא..." and another quote (related to Yalḳuṭ Shimʻoni, Exodus 234, ויאמרו לפניו רבש"ע הללו עובדי עבודה זרה).
