- Summary:
- Lima, like all cities in the world, is an accumulation of architecture that is superimposed over itself over time. Cities are made up of successive layers of styles, all of them corresponding to the concepts of design and life of each historical moment, which its inhabitants considered appropriate, beautiful, functional, useful or necessary for community existence. Each architectural moment, each style, fulfills two essential functions: on the one hand, to express itself as a particular way of organizing its formal, plastic and functional elements and, on the other, to reveal the spirit and culture of the beings who created it and under whose influence they lived at that specific moment of their development. As with other works by this author, this text is motivated by the desire to preserve, honor and organize, visually and historically, the creative work of the hard-working professionals of architecture, who shaped the form and character of the city, and who left a legacy of which we are all heirs, responsible and continuers.
