Summary:
The catalogue, the first to be published in two decades, offers a historical and critical review of the consolidation of the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM) as a public institution; the conformation of its collection, documentary funds and historical archive; as well as their legacy and relationship with their audiences. The publication features critical texts on 60 iconic artworks from the holdings of the MAM, from the perspective and research of collaborators in different areas of the museum, in addition to showing other works from the collection. The museum was founded in 1964 and is now celebrating its first six decades with a recent comprehensive refurbishment of the building, carried out as part of the project "Chapultepec. Naturaleza y Cultura" of the Government of Mexico. "This publication is listed within the celebration of the sixty years of the Museum of Modern Art, a period in which, fulfilling its vocation, it has configured a collective memory through the memories that are woven in its rooms and exhibitions, in the artistic debates of which they have been the stage or protagonist and in the way it has been inhabited both by its visitors and by the teams that have collaborated in its administration and commissioning." --translated from page 5
