David Shiffman was an author and poet, who served as an emmissary and rabbi first in Beirut, Lebanon, and later in Tiberias, Israel, raising funds for Holy Land charities (and other examples of his Purim poems survive); active in the Meḳitse nirdamim Society (also known as Sumptibus Societatis Mekize Nirdamim); see his introduction to his Sefer Yad ṿa-shem ṭov (Jerusalem, [1900?]).
Summary:
Acrostic Purim composition, composed and dedicated to Śimḥah ha-Leṿi Bamberger (likely after the death of his father, Seligmann Baer Bamberger, rabbi of Würzburg, in 1878, whom Schiffman eulogized in Tiberias; this eulogy was later printed in his book, Sefer Yad ṿa-shem ṭov; Bamberger was rabbi in Fischach until 1882, and afterwards rabbi in Aschaffenburg until his death in 1897),alluding to his charity collections and donations sent from Bavarian Jewry.
