- Summary:
- "This book proposes to explore the issue of the in-between in the writings of several French and Francophone writers "from here and elsewhere", with an emphasis on (auto)biographical stories. As a hermeneutic tool, the in-between makes it possible to better identify and interpret the possible cuts and junctions between different systems of thought and writing practices of the contemporary world. Each of the five chapters deals with a particular type of in-between: generic, spatio-temporal, memorial, gastronomic and scriptural. However, given the protean nature and dynamism of this concept, none of the texts selected for this study is limited to the representation of a single type of in-between. The crossing (real or imaginary) of this elusive space always generates new meanings that emerge through hybrid narrative forms, revealing the potential of the interstices to become intervals of meaning thanks to the encounters and exchanges that occur there. Throughout this book, three questions arise repeatedly: (1) what way of inhabiting the world illustrate the stories testifying to the complexity of the in-between, a source of suffering, but also of richness and renewal identity? (2) what place should be given to individual stories in the light of great history? (3) what relationship do women have with their writing, which is placed between the questioning of being and the world? This book is intended primarily for an academic audience interested in contemporary French-language literature, women's studies, gender studies, and cultural studies"-- Provided by publisher.
