- Summary:
- An act for extending the jurisdiction of the courts of justice in Upper and Lower Canada, as a result of increased crimes and offences committed by traders during the struggle to dominate the Montreal-based fur trade.
- Notes:
- The act was drawn up as a result of tensions between the North-West Company and the XY Company. As seen later during the Pemmican War lawsuits, the legality of the act was questioned and deemed inadequately worded to enforce the law in regions outside Upper and Lower Canada. Please note that some of the metadata and translations for this document are taken from the University of Alberta library finding aid, with information originally compiled by Bjarne Tokerud Bookseller Inc.
