- Journal recording Wilson's voyage from Maine to California via Cape Horn aboard the brig Oriental, 15 September 1849-6 March 1850; a few entries recording his trip from San Francisco to Puget Sound on the brig George Emery, July 1850; then along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, beginning December 1850; and his travels in Oregon Territory to the Stillaguamish River to discover coal, with descriptions of Wilson's observations and interactions with local Native Americans. Includes brief vocabularies of languages of the Chinook and the Stillaguamish Indians.
