Summary:
Letters (1820-1827) to Grimes while he was master of the brig Owhyhee, mostly from the owners, Josiah Marshall and Dixey Wildes, in Boston; and an order book (1823-1824). Letters concern Grimes' business aboard the Owhyhee on its trading voyages between the Sandwich Islands, California and elsewhere along the Northwest Coast, and China. Also includes a letter from the artist E M Kirn, dated 17 November 1846, written to Grimes in Yerba Buena (an early name for San Francisco), placing an order for merchandise; and an undated letter to Grimes' brother, Nathan Grimes, from Thaddeus Reed.
