- Summary:
- Transcript of a journal written by Newell, describing certain voyages made to Hawaii, California, China, and others. Includes accounts of pirates, and an 'unfortunate affair' of a woman knocked overboard; consequently the crew had to hastily throw a cargo onboard to avoid their detention by the Chinese authorities. The Chinese authorities stopped all supplies to American boats.

- George Newell was a sea captain from Framingham, Massachusetts.
