- Unidentified Chinese artist, oil on canvas. The Richard Parsons was perhaps the last China trade vessel commanded by a Nantucketer. B Whitford Joy was promoted to captain in 1894, but during that first voyage the Richard Parsons was driven ashore and wrecked in the Philippines by a Pacific typhoon.
