- Kislak Center copy has manuscript note ("Grandfather Spooner & Gt. Grandfather Stockton's adv. on P. 94 (This is now the S.S. White Dental Mfg Co. Stolen by SS White from Saml Stockton who adopted & raised him)") in pencil on front pastedown. The note refers to an advertisement for S.W. Stockton and Company, that is, Samuel Wesley Stockton (1800-1872), whose daughter Ann Eliza Stockton (1825-1880) married David C. Spooner (1824-1883). Samuel Stockton White (1822-1879) was Samuel W. Stockton's nephew by his sister Mary (1797-1862) and her husband William Rose White (1796-1830). Possibilities for the writer of this note include the children of David C. Spooner's daughter Frances Lillian Stockton (later Allen; 1858-1946)--Lillian Stockton Allen (later Edmonds; subsequently Klein; 1884-1966), Ralph Wheelock Pomeroy Allen, Jr. (1886-1964), and Philip Meredith Allen (1893-1966)--and his son David Comyns Spooner (1865-1928)--David Comyns Spooner Jr. (1893-1979).
