Summary:
"As a brilliant strategist from antiquity and the renovator of Rome, Julius Caesar is probably the most famous Roman in history. His life provides material in abundance, not only he himself reports on the Gallic War in his books, but also many of his contemporaries and later historians from all centuries. As the son of a patrician family, the young Julius Caesar completed the prescribed official career and, at the age of 41, won the highest political office, the consulate. As the third party in alliance with the extremely wealthy Crassus and the battle-hardened Pompey, he asserted himself as political governor in the north and subjugated all of Gaul. In the civil war he prevailed against his former ally Pompey, became sole ruler and reorganized the state. Caesar went beyond the boundaries that were valid at the time and took paths that were unusual for his time."
