Summary:
"Prof. Sarah Bender is a Holocaust historian. The core of her research focuses on the history of the Jewish communities in World War II and the German occupation of Poland. Prof. Bender completed her doctoral thesis with honors at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and in the course of time, three research books that she wrote were published: Facing a lurking death - about the Jews of Bialystok (1977, with an employee); In an enemy's land - about the Jews of Kalza (2012, Yad Vashem Publishing) and Jewish slaves - narratives of survival in forced labor camps in the Rdom district in Poland (2022, Pardes Publishing). Hershel heard the story of the survival of her father, Zvi Lifshitz, since she was a little girl, and later it became clear that this influenced the way she chose the field of her research in the academy. Being old enough and after her grandfather was no longer alive, the grandchildren and children showed in interest in his stories during the war and in their grandfather's survival. The essay is a chapter in the survival of a Holocaust survivor, who was imprisoned in two ghettos, was a partisan and a fighter, lost all his family members, and chose to immigrate to the land of Israel. This document will be a souvenir of memory forever and ever for his children and grandchildren and for generations to follow."-- Translation of back cover.
