Summary:
"To be human and a woman, neither more nor less," says one of the verses by Ida Vitale that opens Lo que lleva el tiempo, along with others by Francisca Aguirre that warn of "the wealth that is hidden in loss." Both sentences clearly define the powerful character and the hard-working and admirable journey of the protagonist of this novel, who calls herself Paca Saravia and is described by Liliana González Gugelmeier in the journey that takes her from a small town in Uruguay, Colonia Suiza, to the capital of the country, Montevideo, when she was just a young girl, as well as in the subsequent evolutions of a woman who never stops fighting to make her dreams come true. Narrated in the third person and in a style that is somewhere between realistic and intimate, revealing Paca's moving desires and her decisions that are far removed from the canons of the time. The novel also portrays a historical period, including the difficult years of the dictatorship, but focuses on an increasingly conscious life in which other characters participate, who shine with their own light and help us understand the stages, the renunciations, the sacrifices and also the joys, sometimes few but enriching. Through it, the author offers reflections on the paths that should or should not be taken, on the ever-uncertain future, on loved ones, on losses and how to face them, on personal discoveries and the long road to forgiveness.--Amazon.com
