- Summary:
- "This volume comprises the proceedings of the 7th conference in the "Origin of the State. Predynastic and Early Dynastic Egypt" series, held in Paris from 19th to 23rd September 2022, at the Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art (INHA). The 42 peer-reviewed articles present the latest research and discoveries in the field of early Egypt. They showcase the dynamism of the global community of researchers dedicated to understanding the origins of ancient Egyptian culture. The articles are organised into 11 topics: funerary archaeology; iconography; Lower Egypt; Upper Egypt; rock art; Egypt in context; lithic studies; pottery studies; material, technology, and craft specialization; archives and museum studies; and textual evidence. They include findings from the most recent archaeological fieldwork conducted at major Predynastic sites: in the Nile Delta at Tell el-Fara'in/Buto, Tell el-Farkha, Tell el-Iswid, and Tell el-Murra; in the Memphite region, at Helwan; in Upper Egypt, at Abydos, Naqada, Gebelein, Hierakonpolis, and Elkab; and in the Eastern Desert, at Wadi Sannur.".
