Summary:
In this webinar, Dr. Roper will address the history of human poxvirus infection and vaccine development. Current threats include the continuing global Clade IIb mpox outbreak and the new Clade I mpox outbreak emanating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo affecting adults and children. The virus life cycle and pathogenesis of poxvirus infections will be addressed as well as the current knowledge of the epidemiology of the recent outbreaks. The safety and efficacy of first-generation smallpox vaccines developed from animal viruses, passage-attenuated strains, protein subunit vaccines, targeted gene deletions and mRNA vaccines will be presented.
