Summary:

The two texts by Luis Rodríguez Rivero revolve around the separation between architecture and social fact recorded in a large part of Peruvian architectural history. For Rodríguez Rivero, the oblivion of social analysis led architecture to play in many cases a merely instrumental role of political and economic power. Moreover, the national architectural elite elaborated throughout the 20th century aesthetic discourses that encouraged the reproduction of inequality. Although new discourses and roles are perceived in the present, the analysis of the classical modern stage of our architecture is essential to exorcise that conservative core still in force in the practice of Peruvian architects.
