Summary:
The catalogue of the tribute exhibition brings together for the first time the work of photographer, reporter and filmmaker Jorge Bodanzky (São Paulo, 1942) produced during the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985). The period encompasses young photographic production, experiments in super-8, reports for German TV and some of the main feature films, such as "Iracema" (1974), "Gitirana" (1975), "Os Mucker" (1978), "Jari" (1979), "Terceiro Milênio" (1980) and "Igreja dos Oprimidos" (1985). On the 60th anniversary of the military coup that silenced Brazil, Bodanzky's production is an urgent and current invitation to rethink the democratization of the country and the renewal of political cinema. The publication also features an interview with the artist, who talks about moments in his career, and another with Ailton Krenak, which deals with the filmmaker's production and the current conflicts in the Amazon. In addition, there are texts by the artist's curator, assistants and researchers.
