- Summary:
- The art policy pursued by the government in the Netherlands has failed to make wider sections of the population familiar with art. Cultural spreading would perhaps be better if the government pursued a more coherent art policy and focused its policy more on projects and activities, rather than on institutions. Jan Kassies is very active in left-wing cultural policy. He is the director of the Netherlands Institute for Theater Research and was in the past, among others, chairman of the VPRO and secretary of the Council for the Arts. The paths for a new art policy that have been set out in very brief terms and conditions are clearly formulated and deserve great interest because they can only lead to a better art policy, more cultural spread and a more varied art supply. The reader must be somewhat familiar with cultural policy.
- The 'Preliminary and Background Studies' series comprises papers that have been produced as part of the work of the WRR and that, in its opinion, are of such quality and meaning that publication is required. The responsibility for the content and the positions taken rests with the authors.
