In Toezicht op ondernemingen in de chemische industrie wordt de verantwoordelijkheid voor het toezicht op zowel de interne als de externe veiligheid van zogenaamde BRZO-ondernemingen (Besluit Risico's Zware Ongevallen) behandeld. De behoefte aan modernisering van het toezicht, het bezuinigen op overheidsuitgaven, de discussie over overheidsbemoeienis en de afweging tussen veiligheid en economische belangen, hebben in de loop der jaren tot vele veranderingen in het toezicht geleid. De serie WRR-webpublicaties omvat studies die in het kader van de werkzaamheden van de WRR tot stand zijn gekomen. De verantwoordelijkheid voor de inhoud en de ingenomen standpunten berust bij de auteurs.

Supervision of companies in the chemical industry deals with the responsibility for supervising both the internal and external safety of so-called BRZO companies (Major Accident Risks Decree). The need for modernization of supervision, cutting back on government spending, the discussion about government involvement and the trade-off between security and economic interests have led to many changes in supervision over the years. The series of WRR web publications includes studies that have been produced as part of the work of the WRR. The responsibility for the content and the positions taken rests with the authors.
