- Summary:
- A series of textual and visual tours around the architectural work of Francisco Salamone in the province of Buenos Aires. His squares and buildings built in forty towns in the mid-twentieth century are characterized by their modern and monumental qualities. Between 1936 and 1940, engineer Francisco Salamone designed and built municipal works in almost forty towns in the province of Buenos Aires. His squares and buildings are still striking today for their monumentalism, but also for the richness of their designs and for their strange relationship with the landscape of the province. Such a unique work attracts curious people and amateurs as well as specialists and, since its revaluation in the nineties, it has become a reason for travel for many people. Ruta Salamone brings together the views of four authors who set out on their journeys following in the footsteps of the engineer. The chronicles of these trips include the narration of their itineraries, introspective reflection and the fictional reinvention of their experiences. With a large selection of photos, some illustrations by the group Baires Baires (composed of three sisters: architects María del Socorro Baires and María Jesús Baires, and graphic designer Milagros Baires) and a map that invites you to undertake new journeys, here are condensed different approaches to an architectural work that is already recognized for its heritage value. In his prologue to this book, René Longoni emphasizes that it is "a personal and unrepeatable architecture" that expresses "a particular temperament, flight and sensitivity, and that provides a sort of 'identity card' to the people who receive its designs".
