Summary:
LGBT+ Commons indexes or ingests documents from hundreds of organizational website internationally. They express a particular interest in content from organizations that are endangered because of political or social animosity. We are purchasing 50,000 pages of documents that are in the database permanent archive. Another 150,000+ pages of documents are searchable but indexed, and the database provides links to the Internet. However, the indexed content enters the archive if it becomes unavailable, so all content is preserved. Technically, we are purchasing the material in the archive and subscribing to the remainder of the content. In five years we can decide to purchase more content and subscribe to a growing amount of content in the archive, or we can let the subscription lapse. Content includes policy and culture, with major organizations such as GLAD, GLSEN, Lambda, and the web sites of significant LGBTQ+ magazines, as well as organizations with a more regional or niche focus.
