- Summary:
- "The self/same/other exhibition brings together artworks drawn from the McMaster Museum of Art's permanent collection that present diverse ways of exploring self-imaging and subjectivity through different types of photo-based media. Expanding the genres of portraiture and self-portraiture, selected works reveal how the camera and its reproducible technologies is used to explore changes in bodily perception and identity in art and mass culture across time. The pursuit of traditional likeness is reconsidered through conceptual and formal experiments, raising questions about how we perceive and represent ourselves and others. All photographic works from the McMaster Museum of Art collection. One video work "Unheard Conversations" by Christina Leslie was presented in the self/same/other exhibition in Levy gallery. This work was curated by Betty Julian into the exhibition Movers and Makers in Tomlinson Gallery. The work is part of the curatorial and artistic conversation on still and moving images as it relates to cultural identity and subjectivity."-- Provided by publisher.
