Summary:

This book comprises the work of eight specialists on the cultural phenomena of war, sacrifice, and anthropophagy in Mesoamerica to provide a joint discussion and reflection on these highly debated topics. The essays aim to revisit the three subject matters of warfare, the immolation of human beings and animals, and Amerindian cannibalism, through a series of renovated views, besides portraying the potential of new disciplines, and theoretical and methodological perspectives scarcely explored in the field of Mesoamerican studies. Approximations such as Amerindian war, the philological and literary analyses, perspectivism, the relational approach, the ontological turn, ethnographic theory, and comparativist viewpoints between indigenous societies from diverse cultural areas and temporalities, from the pre-Hispanic era to the modern days, trace new research routes which the reader will appreciate in the various chapters of this bold and unconventional collective work, which intends to transform our field of study.
