Summary:

Melanin is a coming-of-age novel about a mixed-race Korean-Vietnamese boy born with blue skin who experiences a diasporic situation through immigration to the United States. Being treated as the lowest class in society due to skin color and race is a daily occurrence for school friends, teachers, and neighbors. The process of being discriminated against and despised unfolds in close conjunction with historical events such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks, mass shootings, and the impeachment of the Korean president.
