- Summary:
- In the 1930s and 1940s, the Kolla Indians met an artist who complemented his Andean environment in such an intense way that he was called by his peers "the painter of the Altiplano". The exhibition of the plastic work of David Crespo Gastelú, one of the most important indigenists of the first half of the 20th century in Bolivia, also featured the literary prose that accompanied the artistic creation of Crespo Gastelú: a selection of fragments of writer Gloria Serrano, a rebellious, indigenist woman prone to the ideas of the revolution, who was also the painter's wife. On the lonely roads of the Andean steppe (...) in the hamlets dusted with silence and oblivion, the ascetic figure of Crespo Gastelú (...) became familiar to the eyes of the Aymara who cautiously looked at his sober movements" (Gloria Serrano, 1947:157).
