In 1956, the artist Fernando Montes wrote this diary travelling from La Paz to Rurrenabaque. With his companions, he descended on foot and by raft from the Andes to Bolivia's tropical rainforest. It was a world that was changing radically. With an artist's eye, he describes the variety of landscape, vegetation and wildlife, the welcoming community of fugitives, and the hospitable Mosetén tribe who inspired a series of paintings. This journey marked an important stage in his artistic development and he would remember it for the rest of his life.
