Organized into five main chapters (I. Northern and Eastern Africa; II. Central Africa; III. Western Africa; IV. African Art and Signs of Wealth and Power; and V. African Art and its Modernization), the catalogue promotes reflections on numerous forms of aesthetic expressions of African material culture in various media. In this research, the authors present cultural, social, historical, geographical and linguistic aspects of the societies and groups studied, with the aim of promoting a reflection on the theme that is not restricted to the description of the works that make up the Collection in relief, but that, through them, discusses concepts and the very notion of art, since it questions the universalization of the European experience as a normative model. In fact, the authors argue in the introduction to the catalogue, "in anthropocentric cultures such as non-Western ones, art is part of life in the same dimension in which life is part of art".
