Summary:
La première "Vie de saint Bernard, abbé de Clairvaux (Vita prima)" est sans aucun doute la plus importante, la plus élaborée et la plus belle des biographies anciennes de saint Bernard. Elle a été rédigée, en partie de son vivant, par trois de ses proches - Guillaume de Saint-Thierry, Arnaud de Bonneval et Geoffroy d'Auxerre -, en vue de son procès en canonisation. Outre ses richesses pastorales et spirituelles, elle demeure une source historique fondamentale, car ses trois auteurs faisaient partie de l'entourage de Bernard et ont été témoins de bien des événements qu'ils rapportent. Leurs approches, différentes et complémentaires, donnent une vision riche et nuancée de la complexe personnalité de l'abbé. Ce volume contient les trois derniers livres de la "Vie", entièrement dus à Geoffroy d'Auxerre.
