Summary:

The memoirs of Russian politician and opposition leader Alexei Navalny, which he began writing in 2020 after being poisoned with Novichok and continued working on in prison. The book consists of two parts. The first, which takes up about two-thirds, is an autobiography. In it, Navalny talks about his childhood, the formation of his political views, his disappointment in the first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin, who missed the opportunity to turn the country into a democracy, his career as an independent politician, and his persecution by the Russian authorities. The book describes both well-known events from the politician's life (the presidential campaign, recovery from poisoning, arrest at Sheremetyevo, hunger strike in the penal colony) and previously unknown episodes from his childhood and youth that influenced his worldview. The second part contains Navalny's prison diaries. The first entry in the diary was made on January 21, 2021, four days after his arrest, when he returned to Russia after treatment in Germany. The book then continues with a large number of near-daily entries until April 2021, as well as a few from late 2021 and 2022. The last entry in the diary is dated January 17, 2024, a month before his death.

В ней Навальный рассказал о своём детстве, формировании политических взглядов, разочаровании в первом президенте России Борисе Ельцине, который упустил возможность для превращения страны в демократическую, о развитии карьеры независимого политика и преследовании со стороны российских властей. В книге описываются как хорошо известные события из жизни политика (президентская кампания, восстановление после отравления, арест в Шереметьево, голодовка в колонии), так и ранее неизвестные эпизоды из детства и молодости, повлиявшие на его мировоззрение. Во второй части собраны тюремные дневники Навального. Первая запись в дневнике сделана 21 января 2021 года -- спустя четыре дня после ареста, когда он вернулся в Россию после лечения в Германии. Далее в книге приводится большое количество практически ежедневных записей до апреля 2021 года, а также несколько из конца 2021-го и 2022 года. Последняя запись в дневнике датирована 17 января 2024 года, за месяц до смерти.
