- Summary:
- Leonardo García Alarcón is an artist full of personality, known first and foremost as an orchestral conductor. Yet this captivating documentary takes us behind the scenes of Alarcón’s first major oratorio, Pasión Argentina, revealing another aspect of his artistic talents: composition. The libretto from this Baroque-inspired work is based on a 3rd-century copy of the Gospel interpreted by Judas. Soprano Mariana Flores, who also happens to be the composer’s muse and wife, embodies the spiritual figure of Mary Magdalene. In this film, Leonardo García Alarcón discusses his admiration of Johann Sebastian Bach and the influence the German genius had on his own life and work. But the Argentinian’s artistic breakthrough was not possible without going in a new, bold direction and exploring his own identity. Alongside the maestro, we discover how the Pasión Argentina came about to signify his artistic maturity, native country, family, and poetic ancient texts.
