Summary:
In this magical production of Sleeping Beauty, the Ballett Zürich's audacious director Christian Spuck invites us to a new reimagining of Marius Petipa's classic choreography set to Tchaikovsky's rapturous score. Premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1890, Sleeping Beauty was an instant success and remains one of Tchaikovsky's most beloved works; Spuck casts a new light on the characters, underscoring their complexity without ever losing sight of the ballet's timeless qualities. Spuck's artistic vision, complemented by Rufus Didwiszus's sets, comes to life thanks to the kinetic grace of the Ballet Zürich and the elegance of the music, conducted by Robertas Šervenikas. In the leading roles, William Moore is excellent as the villanous fairy Carabosse, and Michelle Willems shines as Princess Aurora in this unique and enduring classic filled with ironic and fantastical flourishes, a masterpiece of drama and aesthetics.
