- Summary:
- Discover a funky and inspiring performance by French guitarist Biréli Lagrène, filmed in 2012 at the Jazz à Vienne Festival. Well known for his expertise in the Gypsy Jazz genre, Lagrène viewed this concert as an opportunity to change things up and explore more electric sounds. The festival, held in the Ancient Theater in Vienne sees the legendary venue resound with a range of explosive and exciting fusion tunes. Lagrène explores different sounds, from the wavy chorus on the guitar, reminiscent of the great Pat Metheny’s style of playing, to the active and rich harmonic ideas more commonly found in the gospel style. The inclusion of the Hammond B3 organ, played by Jean-Yves Jung, further contributes to the gospel feel at times. An overall diverse and entertaining performance from a group of extraordinary musicians.
