Summary:
Experience the sublime voice of J'Nai Bridges in a stunning live concert from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.! The marvelous mezzo meets up with the prestigious National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, for the world premiere of a song cycle by Carlos Simon—part of a colorful program that also features favorite works by Grieg and Tchaikovsky. The evening begins with the world-famous flute and oboe strains of Grieg's Morning Mood, which introduces the first Peer Gynt Suite. After the mournful Death of Åse, the lively Anitra's Dance, and the unrelenting, diabolical In the Hall of the Mountain King finish off the suite, two-time Grammy winner J'Nai Bridges takes the stage to perform the exciting world premiere of Songs of Separation by Carlos Simon, Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence, inspired by the words of Persian poet Rumi. Finally, the NSO and maestro Noseda interpret Tchaikovsky's swooning Romeo and Juliet, styled a "Fantasy-Overture" as it seeks less to recount the entire Shakespearean plot than to evoke the tragedy's atmosphere, emotions, and undying romance.
