The story centers on the Bey of Algiers, Mustafà, who—bored in his marriage—pursues a love affair with a beautiful Italian woman. However, the woman he loves turns out to be enamored with his slave Lindoro… Amid the vibrant sets by Christian Fenouillat, the dynamic Cecilia Bartoli excels as usual with her magnificent voice, spirited acting, and inimitable stage presence, imbuing Isabella with strength and independence. Celebrated bass Ildar Abdrazakov is particularly comical as Mustafà, while tenor Edgardo Rocha—in the role of Isabella’s lover Lindoro—delivers a beautifully expressive performance.
