"The collection was put together when the author turned eighty. Rosenthal collected all the articles he wrote in the study of Talmudic literature into one volume. The collection spans fifty years, and the content of the articles has not changed at all except for references that were found to be incorrect while preparing the keys; these were corrected in the body of the articles. The collection is divided between the two volumes into seven subjects. The first volume includes articles dealing with [a] the Mishnah; [b] the Jerusalem Talmud; [c] the Babylonian Talmud. The second volume contains articles dealing with [d] matters of the Land of Israel and Babylon; [e] the language of the sages; [f] the Ge'onim and Rishonim; [g] various subjects.
