An interleaved proof copy with extensive MS. corrections by the author.

Pp.1-12 are wanting but supplied in MS., the title is taken from the Oxford edition of 1805.

An earlier printing of the proofs of pp.17-48 are bound in at the back, and the emendations made therein are included in the main body of the proofs.

Jenkinson prepared his 'Letter' following his appointment to the Select Committee to take into consideration the coins of the United Kingdom, in 1798.

In 1800, he fell very ill and remained totally incapacitated until 1805, when the first edition was published. These proofs presumably antedate his illness, as the prefatory material, supplied in MS., makes no mention of his health, as the 1805 edition does.
