- Summary:
- Department Store Economist ran for thirty years (1938-1968), published by the Chilton Company in Philadelphia. The aim of this journal was to give a wide range of advice to department store owners and other employees regarding the daily running of these stores, including topics such as fashionable product arrangement styles, how to avoid common customer complaints, and key events to attend. This journal also published information on new products and technological advances to assist in selling goods efficiently to consumers and managing stores more effectively, such as electronic ticketing devices. Due to the longevity of this publication, researchers can see the adaptability of stores in the US in the face of key events such as the Second World War.
