- Summary:
- "This book illustrates how functional family therapy (FFT) has integrated the art and science of family therapy into everyday community-based practice. It shows how a comprehensive and systemic way of thinking about families and a systematic treatment model with solid foundational evidence can be translated into a diverse community that maintains fidelity while matching the context. At the center is the technology that helps combine complex information into usable information that guides training, implementation, and treatment. The book describes the journey of FFT from a traditional theory to an evidence-based practice model used in diverse contexts worldwide. It is divided into two parts. Part one describes the context and history of the model and offers detailed descriptions of each core feature of FFT: its systemic lens through which families, problems, and change can be understood functionally and practically and that helps direct therapy; the map, or clinical model, and each of its phases; and the art or creativity required to translate the model to diverse families in unique service delivery contexts. Part two focuses on the unique contexts in which FFT is delivered and ways to build and maintain the fidelity of FFT when it is implemented. In each section, the authors use case examples to illustrate the concepts. The approaches to training, clinical supervision, and continuous quality improvement are unique among evidence-based treatment models. The way the authors leverage technology allows them to be purposeful and to operate on evidence in each clinical decision. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)"--Preface.
